Saxophonist Bobby Keys died at his home in Franklin, Tennessee, at the age of 70 on Tuesday.He played saxophone for music greats such as Buddy Holly, The Rolling Stones, John Lennon, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Carly Simon, Marvin Gaye and Joe Cocker.
They came in seven different sizes, and paved the way for the creation of the flugelhorn.
"The Rolling Stones are devastated by the loss of their very dear friend and legendary saxophone player, Bobby Keys," the band said in a statement.
"Bobby made a unique musical contribution to the band since the 1960s.
